![]() The chordline length is 69 inches, so pin line on the chordline center is 34.5 inches. Just for fun, I went out and measured my 179 cm 98's. Mine ski just fine on the balance point, so take that for what it is. Some say pins on chordline center of the ski, others say balance point, and a few mark the chordline center and balance point and split the difference. That is the traditional way to mount a 3 pin binding on a "cross country ski", but I don't know what Fischer recommends, and the techs I've spoken to don't know either. "I have my Voile 3-Pin cable binding with the "pin line" as indicated on the mounting template on the balance point of the SBound 98 ski. Tom M generously took the time to write a long reply on YouTube: I have found little skiing difference between the two. Some people prefer toe at balance point for better turning. 'We recommend pin line at balance point for optimal grip and glide. I'll update with some results as soon as I ski on them.ĮDIT 2 Fischer responded to an inquiry on their website: Fischer is apparently redesigning the graphics on the ski for next year and will hopefully put a suggested pin or toe line. The tech at the shop agreed that it looked obvious to him as well as soon as we measured it. This closely matches what Voile recommended for the 3-Pin cable binding on their own skis - about 1.75" ahead of chordline center. ![]() I asked them to place the pin line 3CM ahead of the balance point (97cm up from the tail on 189cm skis). It felt obvious as soon as I put my foot on the ski. Are there pros and cons to a particular method of mounting?ĮDIT Ok after a lot of question here (thank you /r/Backcountry) and on YouTube to Tom M, I went back down to the ski shop, balanced the ski or a ruler, and put my foot on the ski. I've done some reading on the forums (telemarktalk) and it seems that most folks there suggest putting the pin line 1-3cm forward of the balance point or chord center of the ski. These both sound like they would put the binding WAY too far forward of where I want them. Method 2 was to measure the length of the ski, divide in half to find the center of the ski, and mount the binding 15cm forward of the center. Method 1 was to put the boot in the binding and align the center of the boot with the balance point of the ski I am an experienced downhill skier but this is my first adventure ski. The skis dont really have any marks on them to indicate where to mount the bindings and I am trying to avoid telling the shop the wrong thing. The shop that is mounting the bindings is asking me where I would like them mounted and I am not sure what to tell them. We both purchased Voile 3-Pin Cable Telemark Ski Bindings and 3-Pin BC boots (I got the Fischer BCX 675). My girlfriend and I recently purchased a pair of S-Bound 98 skis for some New England backcountry exploration. ![]()
